In ENG 3120 – English Lit 1700-Present, which I taught Fall 2020 semester at Wayne State University, the syllabus assigned students to complete six close reading assignments incrementally throughout the semester. For each close reading, they chose to write about one of the texts we studied across the applicable modules/weeks. At the end of the semester, they chose one of their close readings to develop into a more in-depth Literary Analysis assignment.
