Operation, Maintenance, Repair, and Diagnostics Technical Manuals for the U.S. Army Tactical Vehicle Fleet, 2004-2012

While serving as technical writer/editor & Manager for U.S. Army Tactical Vehicle Systems from July 2004 to November 2012, I supported fleet planning & fielding by overseeing technical manual development, writing, editing & publishing for Army tactical vehicle systems. I regularly worked with and interviewed engineers and mechanics to produce easy-to-understand technical instructions quickly & accurately. The below photos depict the vehicles–the Palletized Load System (PLS) and M915A5 (a semi truck)–for which I managed and published operator’s and maintenance manuals for U.S. troops.

Staff Sgt. James Speegle, a sergeant of the 89th Trans. Co., 260th Combat Sustainment Support Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, and native of Fayetteville, W. Va., gives direction to a driver in order to connect a Container Handling Unit of a Palletized Load System to a container. This process is a very detailed one and takes a lot of practice to master the steps. Once the CHU is in place, the Material Handling Equipment’s suspension will pick the container up and place it on the truck with just a flip of a toggle.
Pvt. Earnest L. Tart, transportation and logistics specialist from Fayetteville, N.C., assigned to the 216th Movement Control Team, Task Force Hellcat, directs truck drivers from the 432nd Transportation Company, Task Force Hellcat, to a staging area before conducting inspections to ensure the convoy is ready to make its 500-mile trek from Anniston Army Depot to Crane, Ind., as part of Operation Golden Cargo 2012.
